About This Site
So you want to know why there's a site on the internet that has a terribly mis-spelled name? Truth be told, this is a personal website that just talks about my interests, hobbies, and may contain an occasional rant or two. I'm not trying to squat on a domain nor am I trying to decieve anyone into thinking this site is to be confused with either of the otherwise better-spelled domains, aperture.org or aperture.com. In fact, I'm going out of my way to point you in the right direction(if you happen manage one of those other domains and you feel this site needs to do something different to make sure everyone understands the differences, please get in touch with me!).
Anyhow, I've been working with computers for almost 20 years now in some capacity or another. From building micro-controlled circuits to programming, it's certainly been a good career choice. Many times I run into problems that don't seem to be well documented, either by the vendor of some product or elswhere on the internet itself. This site gives me a place to post those tidbits of information, so others may benefit from my efforts.
Of course, with the technical stuff comes the need for some artistic interests. After all, we should strive to be well balanced individuals, and the art portion offsets the technical frustrations pretty well. About 4 or 5 years ago, I bought my first camera. I didn't realize back then the wide range of equipment available or that I'd persue it with as much interest as I have, but in the intervening time, I've literally taken hundreds if not thousands of photos. Not all of them are great works of art, but I also needed a space to share some of my work online. This site will have some of my work posted - either for sharing with my family or for general public consumption. I could have put them on photo.net, but I didn't want to be limited in how they are presented online. Don't get me wrong - I think such sites as photo.net are great sites, just not quite as flexible as I'd prefer.
And finally, that brings us to the name of the site. Though my spelling is pretty good, it's not perfect. I tend to spell things the way they are said and there is a subtlety in that I tend to insert an 'a' in the middle of the word when I pronounce it. I was looking for a domain name for my site and wasn't having much luck. Everything I tried seemed to be taken already. So as I was entering just about every photography related term I could think of, I mis-spelled aperture and was very surprised it wasn't registered already. I subsequently ended up with that name and the result is the site you see now. I didn't realize the mistake until about a month later. D'oh!
